Magnets and magnet systems
Permanent magnetic material
Steel magnets (AlNiCo)
Steel magnets are produced by means of a casting process. The basic raw materials to be used for steel magnets are mixed and heated ready for the moulding process. The alloy used contains iron as well as the following metals - 24 % Cobalt, 14 % Nickel, 8 % Aluminium, 3 % Copper and 0,45 % Niobium. From a mechanical point of view, the finished product material is relatively hard and strong and can only be machined with special machines. The magnetic properties of steel magnets are independent of temperature to a large degree.
Therefore they can be used up to temperatures of 500°C. This property is the most important factor in the choice of this material for certain applications. Usually steel magnets are known under the name AINiCo.
