Magnets and magnet systems

Applications, handling instructions and informations

Flexible magnetic material

Magnetic foil is based on synthetic rubber, and has a very wide range of applications. It is used in products like advertising signs on vehicles, planner boards, games (e.g. pocket chess and draughts games), exhibition and display  materials, posters, price cards etc. This material is permanently magnetic, flexible and very easy to work - for example by cutting and trimming, stamping, printing etc. Magnetic foil is available in a wide range of different types and versions, offering a choice of magnetic properties, thicknesses and other dimensions. If required, it can be supplied with a vinyl coating in a choice of colours, or with a self-adhesive layer on the magnetic or non-magnetic side.

Magnetic foil is easily attached to all (ferrous) metal surfaces, and may be removed without leaving any trance on the surface. For all types, the magnetic side is provided with a special coating to prevent scratching or other damage to the surface to which it is attached. This is particulary important when the material is used for advertising signs on vehicles, for example.

For certain applications, such as educational systems and games, iron-impregnated cardboard and metal foil, both specially developed for use in combination with magnetic foil, are available. These materials can be used to provide the necessary substrate for the use of magnetic foil, for example in teaching systems, planner boards etc.

Magnetic foil gives designers and engineers all the freedom they could wish for to use their creativity. For original gift items, effective educational systems, temporary display panels, attachment of permanently removable materials and many more applications, the magnetic foil provides the optimum solution.

Types of materials and magnetic forces

There is a clear relationship between the type of magnetic material which is used and the strength of the magnet in terms of holding force. The products described on this homepage are manufactured in the following material classifications:

ISOTROPIC materials which have typically multipolar magnetisation on one side, exhibit a holding force adequate for a wide range of applications.

When higher magnetic forces are required, SEMI-ANISOTROPIC materials may be used. This material is similar to the isotropic grade but exhibits a stronger magnetic holdinq force. This force is referred to as enhanced magnetic
force.

When the highest demands are placed on the magnetic force, ANISOTROPIC materials are used. With this material unlike the previous grades multipolar magnetisation is applied to both sides.

Magnetic properties of magnetic foils

The magnetic foils can be divided into three grades of magnetic material: isotropic, semi-anisotropic and anisotropic. Isotropic and semi-anisotropic materials have multi-polar magnetisation on one side, i.e. they contain alternate north and south poles on one side. In anisotropic material, this is the case on both sides. This latter method provides a stronger magnetic force which is desirable for certain applications. In fact, the magnetic force of this type of material can even be increased by 10 to 50 per cent by the use of a pole plate made of normal steel.

The magnetic foil is supplied in two main types: natural finish, or with a white, welded-on vinyl coating (matt or glossy). Since this vinyl layer is welded onto the magnetic foil, there can be no relative movement between the two materials, for example during temperature changes. The edges therefore always maintain their correct finish. All the natural types can if desired also be supplied with a vinyl coating coloured white, black, green, yellow, blue or red (FasCal 420), laminated onto the magnetic or the non-magnetic side. As well as these standard colours, a number of other colours are available to special order. All types of magnetic foil can on request be provided with a transparent coating which can be written on using special marker pens. The text which is written in this way can be erased when dry.

Magnetic foil can be supplied on rolls and in sheets, in a variety of widths, lengths and thicknesses. The vinyl layer of the magnetic foil is resistant to salt, water, alcohol, sodium carbonate (2%), ammonia solution (10%) and other agents. The tables provide an overview of the standard product range. In special cases, custom-made products can be supplied. For this purpose, you can call us.

Applications of magnetic foil

Magnetic foil can be used anywhere, both indoors and outdoors. Just a few examples are route indicator signs in buildings, price cards, educational systems, advertising and/or text signs on vehicles etc. The magnetic foil is also ideally suited for advertising gift items and games. In a number of cases, special demands are placed on the magnetic properties of the magnetic foils to be used. Here too, the standard product range offers an optimum choice.

Magnetic foil with extremely low barium content

This magnetic foil meets all the existing and expected future requirements with regard to barium
content for use in children's toys, games etc. A certificate showing the barium content can be supplied on request. The material cornplies with EN 71.1.2.3.

Further information can be provided on re quest.
